History of LPM Black Box Teams
Black Box 2005 Edition
Released October 2005 - Deleted 31st December 2005
Reference numbers 1-20 produced in the numbered LPM black box using 2003 style figures (including 2 bald and 2 pony tailed figures per team) on two part bases with matching goalkeeper on a black rod. Each team carried a serial number hidden under the inner tray beginning 055 which can be used to trace the original owner. The range was made up of thirteen UK Premiership teams, five German and two Spanish clubs.

Quips and quirks of the 2005 range...

Of the two Chelsea kits produced (reference 1) the 2004/05 version was only painted once and was sold to a collector in Italy. The inclusion of the 04/05 kit came about in the catalogue as some of the 20 teams were painted well in advance and as early as May 2005 - No one bothered to point out that Chelsea may actually change their kit for the new season, so come August, reference number 1 was out of date. As it looked OK as far as the painting went, it seemed a shame to bin it so was added and then 'deleted' from the catalogue as soon as it was sold.... and of course creating an absolute one off rarity in LPM teams for the unsuspecting buyer who just wanted a Chelsea in last years kit! It has to be worth £200 by now!.. or maybe not.

Only one team of each was ever produced in references 7 West Ham and 13 Newcastle United.... if truth be known they both took so long to do and get right I couldn't bear the thought of selling them and having to do another, so never advertised them! The West Ham was signed by the first team players and was given as a corporate gift (picture below) and the Newcastle ended up in the great ebay sell off after the range was deleted in January 2006
b
Several black shorted versions of Manchester United reference 6 were produced and sold, the white shorted version was painted just once and given away in aid of charity, but unboxed, so is officially non existent... if anyone offers you one of these or you see one on ebay claiming to be the 'lost reference 6 white shorted Man United' then believe me, it's a repaint!!!!

Some teams took a few goes to 'get right' and these early efforts plus some others that never made the final 20 but were originally intended for the series (AC Milan, Inter and Fenerbache) were re-based onto anything lying around other than 2003 the bases, mainly Flickmaster bases and re-boxed into the cheaper Subbuteo black boxes and sold on auction. One LPM team incidentally was produced and sold on eBay in error using the 2K4 figure in the LPM numbered box, a Real Madrid reference 20 which went to a collector in Spain. The bulk of the remaining stock not sold or advertised on the site prior to 31.12.05 from the deleted range was sold off on eBay and any profits were donated to the Air Ambulance Service. A small amount of stock was also kept with a view to being offered at a later date to new collectors of LPM teams or offered on the site periodically and sold out during 2007

History of LPM Black Box Teams
Black Box AFCON Cup 2006 Series
Released January 2006 - Deleted 30.11.2008
The popular AFCON Series ran for almost three years and covered the 16 teams from the African Nations 2006 finals plus 4 'bonus' teams which were added to the range, if anything to add some blue colours to a set that was dominated by the original sixteen in the traditional African colours of green, red, black and yellow. The 20 team set covered the Black Box reference numbers 21 -40 Not all teams were painted in the up to date kits and past kits were used if more visually exciting. All teams were produced on the 2K4 figure and the rodded goalkeepers came in one design only in a huge variety of different colours.

Over the 34 month period variations have emerged by chance and some teams have been deliberatly kept to a minimum, especially Senegal, which although part of the set was so easy to produced was deemed as 'not good value for money' and it was only ever generally made for those who were chasing to get the complete set.

Variations to be found amongst the range are: Ivory Coast 22 - with round or 'V' neck collars. Angola 29, Zimbabwe 36 and Uganda 38 can be found with either printed or totally hand painted shirt hoops or stripes (the printed versions being the rarer) The South Africa was initially made with white shorts but later changed to green, but like the Senegal, is one one the least produced of all the twenty teams..... the most popular? Guinea, a great kit to paint and to play with, sometimes a certain colour combination on the little plastic figure just works and this was one of them.

Finally, some teams came with different skin and hair colours, almost all Angola and all South Africa teams came in mixed race (2K4 Afican and Causcasian) bar a very few, while Libya 23 and Morocco were painted on 2K4 Causcasian in a tan brown colour with, on occasions, African figures were used in a small percentage within those teams.

The AFCON Range was deleted on 30th November 2008 and is no longer for sale from the web site.

History of LPM Black Box Teams
Black Box Vintage Classics Series 1
Released December 2008 - To Date
Catalog Vintage 1
A very small series follows on from the AFCON range and covers four teams, numbered 41-44 using the 2K4 Vintage figure and like all previous LPM Black Box teams are based on the Subbuteo 2003 bases.

For this small collection, four popular teams amongst Subbuteo collectors was chosen and Series 2 will no doubt follow the same idea. New to this range is the dropping of the rodded goalkeeper in favour of a matching kicking goalkeeper. As with all LPM teams each team carries an individual serial number.
